Category: Leccio del Corno
The Leccio del Corno cultivar is an olive variety which originated in Tuscany and then spread especially throughout the regions of central Italy; its name comes from that of its area of origin: it was in fact first found in the province of Florence, at Corno farm. Leccio del Corno olive trees are not self-fertile (other most widespread cultivars such as Pendolino, Maurino, Leccino, Frantoio and Moraiolo are so used as pollinators) and have a medium/high resistance to cold temperatures and dryness, as well as to the bird’s eye spot disease and to olive oil flies. Leccio del Corno ripens late, and it has a medium yield in olive oil production; its olive oils are characterized by green almond and artichoke notes of flavours, and are quite rich in polyphenols – this characteristic is identifiable in its medium bitterness and pungency feelings.
